Arsenal interested in signing Real Sociedad star Zubimendi
Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi, as per transfer journalist Graeme Bailey.
The Gunners enjoyed a bright start to this season but following a wobbly few weeks before the November international break, they have started looking at their best once again in recent times.
They are currently third in the Premier League table with 28 points from 14 games, sitting seven points behind the league leaders Liverpool. Chelsea have accumulated the same number of points as the North London club but they are just ahead in goal difference.
In the meantime, the January window is approaching and Mikel Arteta’s side have been getting linked with a few names in recent weeks. Reporting on TBR Football, Bailey, says that Arsenal are interested in Zubimendi and they could make a move to hire him next month.
The player reportedly has a £51m release clause in his current contract and has a contract until 2027 with the Basque club.
Zubimendi to Arsenal
The journalist claims purchasing the Spaniard won’t be straightforward for the Gunners as Liverpool and Manchester City are also keen on securing his service.
However, the player hasn’t given any indication that he wants to leave his boyhood club just yet and is not planning to leave in mid-season. Real Madrid is his preferred destination if he were to leave La Real and Los Blancos admire him very much.
With Thomas Partey and Jorginho’s future remaining hanging in balance as their existing contract will expire at the end of this season, it seems Arteta’s side are lining up alternative options in-case either one or both leave the club.
Zubimendi is a top-class player and has proven his worth in a top league like La Liga. Additionally, he has established himself as a key player for Spain in recent times.
It is going to be interesting to see whether the Emirates club eventually manage to persuade him to join the club to reinforce the midfield department next year.
Meanwhile, following a comfortable 2-0 victory over Manchester United yesterday, Arsenal will face off against Fulham at Craven Cottage in the Premier League on Sunday.
