Arsenal keen on signing Sporting star Viktor Gyokeres
Arsenal are reportedly keen on signing Sporting CP centre-forward Viktor Gyokeres, as per Caught Offside.
The Swedish international has been linked with a move away from the Jose Alvalade Stadium in recent months after bursting onto the scene having displayed impressive performances in recent campaigns.
He guided the Lions to win the Liga Portugal title last term and made 58 goal contributions in 50 appearances in all competitions. Following that, he attracted a lot of attention last summer and the Gunners reportedly one of the clubs expressed their interest in him.
However, the Portuguese giants eventually managed to keep hold of him. Now, he has started the new campaign brilliantly, scoring 25 goals and registering four assists in 22 appearances in all competitions.
He has been helping his side to defend their league title but following Ruben Amorim’s departure to Man Utd, Sporting’s form has dipped significantly at the moment.
Gyokeres to Arsenal
Now, Caught Offside report that Arsenal remain keen on signing Gyokeres and they could make a concrete approach to secure his service next year. However, the Swedish international isn’t the only option on their wish-list.
Manchester United and Manchester City are also plotting a swoop for him and they have already held talks over this deal with the Red Devils the frontrunners to seal the move. Therefore, Arsenal will have to put their best efforts in to sign Gyokeres with Sporting demanding at least £58m to let him leave.
Kai Havertz has been the first-choice striker for Mikel Arteta in recent seasons. He made 20 goal contributions in 30 league starts last term but has scored only five goals in 13 league appearances thus far this campaign.
Therefore, it is apparent that he hasn’t been able to showcase the consistency that is needed to help Arsenal achieve their lofty ambitions.
On the other hand, Gabriel Jesus has been the deputy to the German but the former Man City man has been struggling to showcase his best at the moment.
Therefore, signing a new striker would be the right decision next year and Gyokeres would be a great acquisition if Arsenal can manage to secure his service by beating the Manchester clubs in this race.
