Arsenal interested in signing Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz

By on December 13, 2024

Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz, as per Caught Offside.

After letting Fabio Vieira join FC Porto last summer, Mikel Arteta has been left with Martin Odegaard as the only specialist option to deploy in the attacking midfield position.

Amid the Norwegian’s injury absence this season, Leandro Trossard was used in the CAM role but he didn’t manage to showcase his best in this position as he is more comfortable out wide.

So, during Odegaard’s absence, Arsenal were struggling to create opportunities and as a result, they couldn’t win games. Perhaps, that’s why, the Gunners have started exploring high-profile No.10 options to bolster the squad as they need proper depth in every department to challenge on all fronts.

Caught Offside claim that Wirtz will leave Leverkusen next summer after proving his worth in the German top-flight in recent times and Arsenal have registered their interest in signing him.

However, Liverpool are also in this race and Manchester City are looking to beat the North London club and the Reds in this race by including a player in a swap deal, while Leverkusen are interested in Oscar Bobb and James McAtee.

Therefore, Arsenal will have to put their best efforts in to lure the Germany international to the Emirates Stadium next year.

The 21-year-old will have two years remaining in his current contract next summer and is valued at around £107m by Transfermarkt. Therefore, Arteta’s side will have to splash huge money to sign him.

Wirtz is one of the hottest prospects in world football after displaying impressive performances in the German top-flight in recent times. He guided his team to win the domestic double last term and also helped them win the German Super Cup ahead of this season.

Wirtz has been in excellent form thus far this season, scoring 10 goals and registering five assists in 19 appearances in the Bundesliga and the Champions League.

The German is a top-class player and possesses the potential to become one of the best players in the world in future. Therefore, he would be a great coup for Arsenal if they can eventually manage to lure him to the Emirates Stadium.
