Arsenal plot swoop to sign Atalanta ace Charles De Ketelaere
Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Atalanta forward Charles De Ketelaere, as per Caught Offside.
After joining AC Milan from Club Brugge back in 2022, the Belgian struggled to flourish his career at San Siro Stadium. So, the Rossoneri decided to let him leave in the following year and Atalanta hired him on an initial loan deal before making the move permanent last summer.
The 23-year-old enjoyed a stellar debut campaign at Gewiss Stadium last term, making 25 goal contributions in all competitions and helping his side win the Europa League title.
Now, he has continued to display eye-catching performances this season as well, scoring eight goals and registering nine assists in 23 appearances in all competitions.
He scored against Real Madrid in the Champions League and assisted twice versus Napoli in Serie A. Additionally, he netted twice and registered three assists against Young Boys earlier this season.
Caught Offside claim that Arsenal hold a long-term interest in De Ketelaere and they continue to keep a close eye on him. La Dea are in no rush to sell the forward as he has a contract until 2027 but they could change their stance if they receive an offer of around £40m.
De Ketelaere to Arsenal
However, the Gunners aren’t the only club looking at securing his signature as Aston Villa, West Ham United, Liverpool, Tottenham, Newcastle United and Manchester City are also keen on signing him with the Reds and the Hammers planning to step up their efforts to get the deal done in January.
De Ketelaere, standing at 6ft 4in tall, is comfortable in multiple positions across the frontline. He usually plays as the second striker at Atalanta but can also be deployed in the attacking midfield, right-wing and centre-forward positions.
He is a technically gifted player and is good in the air. Moreover, the forward is excellent at linking up the play, has an eye for long-range passing and is efficient in taking penalties.
So, De Ketelaere has the attributes to provide cover for Havertz, Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka. Arteta likes having versatile players and the Atalanta star would be an ideal option for him.
It is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually opt to secure De Ketelaere’s signature next year to strengthen the squad.
