Arsenal interested in signing Boca Juniors star Leandro Brey
Arsenal have reportedly registered their interest in signing Boca Juniors goalkeeper Leandro Brey, as per a recent South American report.
After letting Aaron Ramsdale leave the club last summer, the Gunners initially tried to replace the Englishman with Espanyol star Joan García. But, they eventually couldn’t manage to find an agreement with the Catalan giants to hire him, in the end, Neto joined the club to support David Raya.
However, the Brazilian has joined the club on a loan deal from AFC Bournemouth and considering he will turn 36 next year, it is highly unlikely that the North London club will secure his service permanently.
So, it seems Arsenal have started exploring options to sign a new goalkeeper to support Raya next season. As per a recent South American report (via Sport Witness), the Gunners ‘want to take’ Brey away from Boca Juniors and have been following him closely at the moment.
However, purchasing him won’t be straightforward as other clubs are also keen on signing him, although the report hasn’t revealed the names of the other potential suitors.
Brey to Arsenal
Boca Juniors will have ‘to be attentive’ to Arsenal’s interest as they could make a concrete approach to lure the 22-year-old to the Emirates Stadium next year.
The Argentinian has displayed glimpses of his qualities for Boca Juniors in recent times. In 12 appearances in the Argentinian top-flight this year, he has kept six clean-sheets with an 82% saving parentage.
Brey is 6ft 3in tall and is an excellent shot-stopper. He is a highly talented player and possesses the potential to become a top-class goalkeeper in future.
So, he could be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal if they purchase him. The youngster is valued at around £2m by Transfermarkt and has a contract until 2027 with Boca Juniors, therefore, he is likely to be available for an affordable price next year.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure Brey’s service in January or next summer to bolster the goalkeeping department.
Meanwhile, following an excellent victory over Crystal Palace in the Premier League last weekend, Arsenal will welcome Ipswich Town in the league on Friday night.
