Mikel Arteta is reportedly keen on signing Inter Milan star Marcus Thuram at Arsenal to reinforce the attacking department, as per Spanish outlet Fichajes.

After joining the Nerazzurri as a free agent last year, the Frenchman has been in stellar form in recent times. He guided his team to win the Scudetto last campaign and has enjoyed a bright first half of this season, scoring 12 goals and registering three assists in 16 Serie A appearances.

Simone Inzaghi’s side are currently third in the table with 37 points from 16 games, sitting three points behind the table topper Atalanta with a game in hand so they are on course to defend their title.

The Italian giants have also been displaying excellent performances in the Champions League thus far this season and are looking likely to reach the pre-quarter-final stage automatically.

Now, Fichajes state that Arteta is ‘determined’ to strengthen Arsenal’s attacking department by signing a new striker and Thuram is high on his wish-list.

However, purchasing the 27-year-old won’t be easy for the North London club as he will be an expensive option. The striker is valued at around £83m and has a contract until 2028 at Inter.

The report say the Frenchman isn’t the only option on Arsenal’s radar to bolster the number nine position as Bayer Leverkusen’s Victor Boniface and RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko are also serious targets.

The Gunners have had an inconsistent first half of this season. They are currently third in the table with 33 points from 17 games, sitting six points behind the league leaders Liverpool having played an extra game.

It has widely been suggested that Arsenal need a new striker to finally win the Premier League title. Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus are the two centre-forward options Arteta currently has at his disposal.

Havertz has been average in recent weeks despite starting the season brilliantly, while Jesus didn’t open his account in the Premier League before scoring a brace last time out versus Crystal Palace.

Thuram is a versatile forward as he can play in the centre-forward position as well as out wide. He is a talented player and it remains to be seen whether the North London club will eventually make a concrete approach to sign him next year.
