Arsenal are reportedly keen on signing Sevilla midfielder Lucien Agoume, as per French outlet, Foot Mercato.

In every transfer window, the Gunners get linked with numerous names but they don’t go for all of them. Now, ahead of the upcoming January window, the process has started once again.

Football Mercato state that Agoume’s recent performances at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan have attracted the attention of Arsenal and they now ‘really appreciate’ the midfielder.

The player has the same agent as William Saliba and the North London club are looking to take advantage of this to lure him to the Emirates Stadium.

After ranking through French club FC Sochaux’s youth system, the 22-year-old joined Inter Milan back in 2019. But, he never managed to secure his place in the Nerazzurri’s starting eleven.

So, he went out on loan to several teams to play regularly and develop his career, now he has started showcasing his qualities after joining Sevilla permanently ahead of this season.

Having recently joined the Andalusian side, the 22-year-old – valued at around £6m by Transfermarkt – still has three and a half years left in his current contract. So, Sevilla are in a strong position to demand a sizable amount of money to let the midfielder leave next year.

Agoume is a holding midfielder and the Gunners will be needed to bolster this position if they part ways with Thomas Partey and Jorginho next year.

Both the veteran players have entered the final few months of their respective contracts and considering Mikel Arteta’s side haven’t tied them to fresh terms, it seems they are planning about the future without the duo.

Agoume is a talented player – who is dynamic, strong and efficient in defensive contributions. However, the Frenchman doesn’t have much experience playing at the highest level so he might not be the ideal option to replace Partey or Jorginho. Therefore, the North London club would be better off exploring more experienced options to strengthen the midfield department next year.

It is going to be interesting to see whether the Emirates club eventually make a concrete approach to purchase Agoume in January or next summer.
