Arsenal have had an inconsistent first half of this season and are currently third in the Premier League table with 36 points from 18 games.
After narrowly missing out on winning the league title in the last two seasons, Mikel Arteta made it clear that his primary objective is to win the league finally this campaign.
However, they are currently nine points behind the table topper Liverpool so it looks difficult for the North London club to achieve their main objective this season. But, the season is still just halfway through and Arsenal will have to win as many games as possible over the coming months to stay in the title race.
Arsenal will face off against Brentford at Gtech Community Stadium next in the Premier League on New Year’s Day.
The Bees have been displaying excellent performances in home fixtures in the league so Arsenal will have to be at the top of their game to earn all three points from this encounter.
Team news
Bukayo Saka’s injury is a huge blow for Arteta and the Spanish boss will have to find a way to fill the Hale End graduate’s void, they won the last game without him and will be hoping to continue doing the same. Additionally, Ben White, Raheem Sterling and Takehiro Tomiyasu are set to remain sidelined with their respective problems.
Predicted line-up
David Raya is expected to continue in goal and in front of him, William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes should be the centre-back partnership for the visitors in this fixture. Therefore, Jakub Kiwior could be among the substitutes.
Jurrien Timber and Myles Lewis-Skelly should keep hold of their place in the fullback positions so Riccardo Calafiori would have to settle for a place on the bench.
Thomas Partey is likely to return to the starting eleven and start in the holding midfield position. Declan Rice could be in the box-to-box role, pushing Martin Odegaard in the advanced role. So, Mikel Merino, Jorginho and Ethan Nwaneri are set to be among the substitutes.
Gabriel Jesus may start in the right flank, while Gabriel Martinelli might be on the opposite side, deploying Kai Havertz in the centre-forward position. In that case, Leandro Trossard would feature off the bench.
Expected Arsenal line-up vs Brentford
Raya; Timber, Saliba, Gabriel, Lewis-Skelly; Partey, Rice, Odegaard; Jesus, Havertz, Martinelli
