Arsenal reportedly hold a ‘genuine interest’ in Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha, as per Caught Offside.

After beating Brentford in the Premier League, the Gunners have managed to close the gap with the league leaders Liverpool. They are currently second in the league with 39 points from 19 games.

However, they are still six points behind the Reds and if the Merseyside club win their remaining game then their lead will extend to nine points. So, the North London club will have to have a near-perfect run in the second half of this season to trump Liverpool in this race.

It appears Mikel Arteta has identified he needs to reinforce Arsenal’s attacking department to finally win the title. Caught Offside claim that the Gunners have a ‘genuine interest’ in Cunha and could make a concrete approach to lure him to the Emirates Stadium.

However, purchasing him won’t be easy for Arsenal as Manchester United, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City, Napoli, Newcastle United, Aston Villa and AC Milan are also keen on hiring him. Moreover, the report say Wolves have no intention of letting him leave in January and are planning to offer him a new deal until 2030.

Cunha to Arsenal

After moving to Molineux Stadium from Atletico Madrid, the Brazilian enjoyed a stellar campaign last term, making 19 goal contributions in the Premier League. Now, he has continued to showcase his best in the English top-flight this term, scoring 10 goals and registering four assists in 19 league appearances.

The South American can play anywhere across the frontline but is most comfortable on the left side. He is quick, strong, technically sound, can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas and also works hard without possession.

Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard are the two specialist options Arsenal currently have for the left side of the attack. Moreover, Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus can also play in this position, but the Englishman has joined the club on a loan deal and is expected to return to Chelsea at the end of this season.

Cunha – valued at around £41m by Transfermarkt – would be an upgrade to all of the options Arteta currently has so he would be a great coup for Arsenal if they purchase him.
