Arsenal register interest in signing PSG’s Lee Kang-In
Arsenal have reportedly registered their interest in signing Paris Saint-Germain star Lee Kang-In, as per The Athletic.
After coming through Valencia’s youth system, the 23-year-old made his senior debut for Los Ches back in 2018. But, he never managed to secure his place in the starting eleven at Estadio Mestalla so he left the club to play regularly and develop his career.
Mallorca signed him as a free agent back in 2021. He initially took time to settle down in new surroundings before displaying impressive performances in the 2022/23 campaign.
Having been impressed by the South Korean, PSG decided to hire him in 2023. Now, he has been used as a rotational player at Parc des Princes by Luis Enrique.
So, The Athletic say that Lee is ready to leave PSG to take on a new challenge in his career and Arsenal have been made aware of the midfielder’s desire. They have been keeping a close eye on his situation before making a potential swoop.
Lee to Arsenal
Les Parisiens want a fee of around £37m to sell their star man – who still has more than three and a half years left in his current contract. But, Arsenal don’t want to spend that much for him and are planning to secure his service on a loan deal with an option to make the move permanent.
The South Korean international is a versatile player as he is an attacking midfielder by traits but is also comfortable in the box-to-box role. Additionally, he can provide cover on either flank if needed.
He is a technically gifted player and can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas. Moreover, he can play threading passes between the lines, has an eye for long-range passing and also works hard without possession.
The midfielder possesses the necessary qualities to play in Mikel Arteta’s possession-based system and he would be able to provide cover for both Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard if he were to join.
Therefore, he would be a great coup for Arsenal if they purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually formalise their interest in signing him in January or at the end of this season.
