Arsenal predicted line-up against Manchester United

By on January 10, 2025

Declan Rice Arteta Arsenal

Arsenal will welcome Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium in the FA Cup third-round fixture on Sunday afternoon.

The Replay rule has been scrapped, so if the game ends in a draw after 90 minutes, it will go to extra time and then penalties.

The Gunners have been inconsistent thus far this season and will be coming into this game off the back of a 2-0 defeat over Newcastle United in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final. So, they must turn the game around in the second leg at St James’ Park next month to reach the final.

On the other hand, Man Utd have been poor thus far this season but they will be coming into this game fully energised as they didn’t have to play a midweek game.

Team news

Arsenal have several injury problems at the moment as Bukayo Saka, Ethan Nwaneri, Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu are all set to remain sidelined with their respective problems for this game.

Leandro Trossard picked up a knock last time out and was taken off around the hour mark so it remains to be seen whether he can be involved in this game or not.

Predicted line-up

Mikel Arteta usually plays second team in cup competitions but he went strong in midweek against Newcastle and is likely to do the same in this encounter as well.

So, David Raya is likely to be between the sticks so Neto could be among the substitutes. William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes are expected to be the centre-back partnership, while Jurrien Timber and Riccardo Calafiori may be the two fullbacks for Arsenal.

Thomas Partey is expected to continue in the holding midfield position and on either side of him, Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard should commence. Therefore, Jorginho and Mikel Merino would have to make do with a place on the bench.

Gabriel Jesus should lead the line, while Gabriel Martinelli might be on the left flank fo the Gunners. Amid Saka and Nwaneri’s absence, Kai Havertz could start on the right. So, Raheem Sterling would have to settle for a place on the bench.

Expected Arsenal line-up vs Man Utd:

Raya; Timber, Saliba, Gabriel, Calafiori; Partey, Rice, Odegaard; Jesus, Martinelli, Havertz
