Arsenal have reportedly turned their attention to Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Joao Gomes, according to reports from Rudy Galetti.

The Gunners are looking to strengthen their squad as they prepare for a final push for major trophies during the second half of the season.

The Brazilian international, who joined Wolves in the winter of 2023, has impressed in the Premier League. His performances have now caught the eye of Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, a long-time admirer of the 23-year-old midfielder.

Having narrowly missed out on the Premier League title to Manchester City for two consecutive seasons, Arsenal are determined to end their drought and finally lift the trophy. Additionally, they aim to make a strong run in the Champions League and other domestic competitions. Reinforcing their squad is seen as crucial to achieving these goals.

JOAO GOMES TO ARSENAL

Reports from Rudy Galetti suggest that Arsenal have made fresh inquiries about Joao Gomes, who is valued at £33m (transfermarkt). The Gunners are keen to provide more options in midfield to pair with Declan Rice as they seek to strengthen their squad depth.

Arsenal’s current midfield includes summer signing Mikel Merino, Declan Rice, Thomas Partey, and Jorginho. However, injuries and inconsistencies have forced Arteta to look for reinforcements, with Gomes emerging as a target. Gomes’ high work rate, composure, and technical abilities on the ball make him one of Arteta’s midfield targets.

Arsenal will face stiff competition from Premier League rivals Liverpool, Tottenham, and Manchester United, who are also interested in signing Joao Gomes, as per the report. Wolves, however, are reportedly reluctant to sell their star midfielder during the winter transfer window and are expected to demand a huge fee to part ways with the Brazilian.

Currently sitting second in the Premier League, six points behind leaders Liverpool, Arsenal are determined to keep their title hopes alive. Their next challenge comes on January 12th when they face Manchester United in the third round of the FA Cup.

Securing Joao Gomes could provide Arsenal with the depth and quality needed to sustain their push for trophies across multiple competitions.
