Arsenal suffer huge blow to sign Wolves ace Matheus Cunha
Arsenal have reportedly suffered a huge blow in pursuit of Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha, as per Spanish outlet Fichajes.
The Brazilian has attracted a lot of attention after displaying impressive performances for the West Midlands club in recent campaigns.
In 29 Premier League starts last season, he netted 12 goals and registered seven assists. Now, the forward has continued to showcase his qualities for Wolves this term, scoring 10 goals and notching up four assists in 18 league starts.
Fichajes state that Arsenal have shown interest in signing the South American to reinforce the attacking department. But, the Gunners aren’t the only club interested in him as Manchester United are also in this race.
However, Wolves have no intention of parting ways with him and the player also doesn’t want to leave in mid-season. So, Arsenal will have to wait until the end of this season to lure him to the Emirates Stadium.
Cunha to Arsenal
Wolves have been in relegation scrap, languishing 17th in the table with 16 points from 20 games. They are just ahead of the drop zone in goal difference.
Therefore, it seems Cunha doesn’t want to leave his team at this difficult time. But, if Wolves eventually fail to keep their top-flight status then they would be forced to sell him in a cut-price deal next summer.
Cunha is comfortable playing on the left flank but is also efficient on the opposite side and in the striker position.
Arsenal started the campaign with the ambition of finally winning the Premier League title this season. But, they haven’t been able to showcase the free-flowing football that they showcased last term.
So, they could do with freshening up the squad to help Mikel Arteta mount a title charge in the second half of this season.
Cunha is a Premier League proven player and would have been a great acquisition for the North London club had they managed to secure his service in this window.
However, following his rejection, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Emirates club eventually opt to sign anyone else to bolster the frontline before the deadline.
