Arsenal dream of signing Newcastle ace Alexander Isak
Arsenal reportedly dream of signing Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, as per transfer expert David Ornstein.
Following Gabriel Jesus’ season-ending knee injury, the Gunners have found themselves short in numbers in the centre-forward position. They also have Kai Havertz but he has had an average season so far this term.
Mikel Arteta recently hinted that they are exploring options to strengthen the squad in January, while Declan Rice did the same following the North London derby victory yesterday.
It has been reported that Arsenal want a new striker to replace Jesus and have been linked with a few names with Juventus’s Dusan Vlahovic being among them.
But, speaking on the Sky Sports Back Page Podcast, Ornstein says that although Arsenal have been mentioned as a potential suitor for the Serbian, Arteta’s side aren’t looking to hire him at the moment. They hold an interest in RB Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko but it is looking highly unlikely that they would be able to purchase him in this winter window.
Isak to Arsenal
The transfer journalist further claims that Isak is the real apple of the eye for Arsenal to bolster the frontline. But, it is going to be extremely difficult for the Emirates club to lure him away from St James’ Park.
Ornstein said:
“They’ve been linked with Dusan Vlahovic. My latest information is that’s not looking like one that Arsenal are going to pursue, but let’s see how things go in the couple of weeks ahead with a number of options that I’m sure they’ll have. They like Benjamin Sesko historically, but I don’t expect him to move in this window.
“The real apple of their eye is Alexander Isak, certainly for Mikel Arteta. But we know how difficult that will be, if possible at all.”
Isak has been in stellar form thus far this season, scoring 15 goals and registering five assists in 19 Premier League appearances. After scoring against Wolverhampton Wanderers last night, the 25-year-old has become the only Newcastle player to score in eight consecutive matches in the Premier League.
The Swedish international has proven his worth in the English top-flight in recent times so he would be a great coup for Arsenal if they purchase him.
However, he still has three and a half years left in his current contract. Therefore, the Magpies won’t allow him to leave for cheap if they are forced to cash-in.
