Arsenal urged to sign Darwin Nunez to win the PL title
Former midfielder Didi Hamann has urged Arsenal to sign Liverpool star Darwin Nunez to finally win the Premier League title.
Mikel Arteta initially tried to strengthen the centre-forward department by signing Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City. The Brazilian started his life at the Emirates Stadium promisingly but injury problems have restricted him from flourishing his career, now he has sustained a serious knee injury, and as a result, his season is over.
Kai Havertz was purchased ahead of last season to strengthen the frontline. Following a slow start for the Gunners, he showcased glimpses of his qualities in the second half of last term. However, he has been struggling to showcase consistency this season.
Now, during a recent interview (via the Metro), Hamann says that Arsenal lack firepower in their centre-forward position so if they don’t sign a new striker, they won’t be able to win the Premier League title.
The former midfielder further claims that Nunez would be a transformative signing for the North London club and that the Uruguayan’s acquisition would unlock Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli.
Nunez to Arsenal
He said:
“I can’t see Arsenal winning anything without a centre forward. Arsenal would be a transformed team with Darwin Nunez up front. Someone with that physical presence who can stretch teams and create space.
“Imagine the damage that Bukayo Saka or Gabriel Martinelli could do if Nunez was stretching teams with his pace and occupying defenders. It would change the whole dynamic of the team.”
After joining Liverpool from SL Benfica, Nunez has showcased glimpses of his qualities in the Premier League. But, overall, he hasn’t been able to live up to the expectations and now, he has been playing as a rotational player under Arne Slot this season.
The 25-year-old is an energetic centre-forward and is also capable of providing cover on the flanks if needed. He is still very young and has plenty of time on his time to turn his situation around. Changing of environment can help him do that.
Therefore, he could be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal if they did sign him. However, there is virtually no chance that Liverpool would sell the South American to their nearest title rivals so it’s a non-starter.
