Arsenal make contact to sign Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko
Arsenal have reportedly made contact over a deal to sign RB Leipzig centre-forward Benjamin Sesko, as per transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Following Gabriel Jesus’ knee injury, the Gunners are seemingly planning to sign a new striker in this transfer window as they have been linked with a few options in recent days.
Dusan Vlahovic, Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyokeres have all been suggested as potential targets, while Sesko has been on their radar since last summer.
They reportedly attempted to hire him in the previous transfer window, but the player eventually opted to remain at Red Bull Arena by signing a new deal.
Now, speaking on GiveMeSport, Romano says that despite failing to secure his service last time around, Arsenal remain keen on him and have recently made contacts over a deal to purchase him.
However, Leipzig have no intention of letting him leave in mid-season and it will take a completely ‘crazy’ bid from Arsenal to change the Bundesliga side’s stance.
Sesko to Arsenal
The journalist said:
“[One target is] Benjamin Sesko, because they had some contacts for Sesko in the last 10 to 15 days. But what I’m told is that RB Leipzig insist on their decision to keep the player at the club until the end of the season. So it’s not going to be easy. It will take something completely crazy in terms of financials to convince Leipzig in January.”
The 21-year-old is valued at around £42m by Transfermarkt and has a contract until 2029 with Leipzig.
The forward, standing at 6ft 5in tall, is quick, good in the air, possesses excellent shooting technique and is also efficient in finishing off his chances.
Sesko is a top-class player and possesses high potential. However, he isn’t a finished article and can take time to reach his full potential. So, the Gunners would have to keep their patience with him if they were to purchase him.
However, Arsenal have been a title challenger in recent times and they would be better off going for a more experienced option to achieve their lofty ambitions.
Nevertheless, Sesko has the potential to become one of the best strikers in the world, therefore, he would be a great coup for the North London club with a view to the long-term future if they hire him.
