Arsenal Enquire About Aston Villa Striker Jhon Duran
Arsenal have made an enquiry to explore the possibility of signing Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano on his YouTube page, the Gunners are assessing their options in the transfer market as they look to bolster their attack during the final week of the window.
The need for reinforcements upfront has become urgent for Arsenal. Key injuries to Gabriel Jesus and Bukayo Saka have left the team short in the attacking department.
Meanwhile, players like Kai Havertz, Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard, and Raheem Sterling have struggled with inconsistency and fatigue throughout the season.
Jhon Duran, 21, has emerged as one of the standout performers this season. Deputizing for Aston Villa’s star striker Ollie Watkins, the Colombian has scored remarkable goals and shown the potential to lead the line for a bigger club.
With 12 goals across all competitions despite frequently starting from the bench, Duran’s lethal finishing and physical prowess have caught the attention of several top clubs, including Arsenal.
Arsenal’s Interest in Jhon Duran
Mikel Arteta has made no secret of Arsenal’s intent to bring in attacking reinforcements during this transfer window. It is unsurprising, therefore, that Jhon Duran has been linked with the Gunners.
Speaking on his YouTube page, Fabrizio Romano revealed that Arsenal recently reached out to Aston Villa to understand the striker’s availability. The club is also monitoring other targets, but options like RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Šeško have proven challenging to pursue.
‘What I’m told is that also Arsenal made a call in the recent weeks to understand the situation of Jhon Duran, because Sesko, at the moment, no green light from Leipzig.’
Romano further noted that Arsenal’s primary target remains Newcastle’s Alexander Isak. However, that deal is expected to be expensive and highly complicated, leaving Arsenal with limited options.
He further emphasized that, as of now, no bids or direct negotiations have taken place between Arsenal and Aston Villa regarding Duran.
‘Also Alexander Isak, the dream target of Arsenal. Super expensive, almost very complicated, impossible, nothing in football, but very complicated. And so in recent weeks, also Arsenal called to understand the situation of Jhon Duran, but no bid, no direct negotiations with Aston Villa.’
The Colombian forward has also attracted interest from other clubs. Al-Nassr and West Ham have both been linked with moves for the striker.
West Ham reportedly had a £57 million bid rejected, according to transfer journalist David Ornstein.
Ornstein also reported that Aston Villa would consider selling Duran if a bid exceeding £80 million is tabled.
Arsenal’s Urgency Ahead of the Window Closure
With the winter transfer window nearing its conclusion, Arsenal are expected to be active in the market.
The club is eager to sign an attacker who can help keep the pressure on Liverpool and improve their chances of winning silverware this season.
As the situation surrounding Jhon Duran unfolds, it remains to be seen whether Arsenal will make an official move for the Colombian or switch to other targets.
One thing is certain: the Gunners are determined to strengthen their squad and keep their title ambitions alive.
