A detailed look at Arsenal’s fixtures in February

As we head into another season-defining month with Mikel Arteta’s men still competing in three competitions, I look at Arsenal’s fixtures in February.

January was a mixed month for the Gunners. We began 2025 with an impressive 3-1 victory away to Brentford but then a run of three disappointing results threatened to derail our entire campaign.

First up was a disappointing draw away to Brighton that saw us fall further behind Liverpool in the Premier League title race. After Ethan Nwaneri had given us an early lead, we looked comfortable and appeared to be heading towards a vital three points. However, we conceded a hugely controversial penalty when William Saliba accidentally clashed heads with Joao Pedro. The Brighton man scored from the spot and we dropped two points at the Amex.

Arsenal then slumped to a 2-0 home defeat to Newcastle in the first leg of our Carabao Cup semi-final. We missed a hat full of chances and should at least have got a draw, but now we face a mountain to climb if we’re to reach Wembley. With one foot out of the League Cup, Arsenal wanted to make amends when we hosted Manchester United in the 3rd round of the FA Cup. However, despite dominating the game – especially after United went down to 10-men – we somehow missed numerous excellent chances and eventually lost on penalties.

Thankfully, Arsenal responded well to that set-back by beating Tottenham 2-1 in the NLD derby. Sadly we couldn’t follow that up with another win as we blew a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 at home to Aston Villa – further denting out title credentials. A couple of routine wins in the Champions League over Dinamo Zagreb and Girona meant Arsenal finished third in the group ensuring safe passage straight into the last-16, so that was a big positive from last month. We also ground out a 1-0 win away to Wolves despite Myles Lewis-Skelly receiving a ridiculous red card.

So it was a mixed month, but Arsenal still have a chance to turn things around against Newcastle in the League Cup and have kept ourselves in touch with Liverpool at the top of the table. Let’s look at what lies in store in February:

Arsenal vs Manchester City [Feb 2nd]

First up and we have a blockbuster clash with defending champions Manchester City at the Emirates. Fans with Arsenal tickets will remember the animosity at the end of our 2-2 draw at the Etihad Stadium earlier in the season so we’ll be out for revenge on Sunday afternoon. City aren’t at their best this season and sit fifth in the table, so Arsenal will fancy their chances of getting a vital win.

We cannot underestimate Pep Guardiola’s men as they are still a top class side with a squad packed full of quality players, but I fancy Arsenal to get the win we need to keep the pressure on Liverpool. If we lose and Liverpool beat Bournemouth the previous day, the gap will be nine points with Liverpool holding a game in hand, so this is a huge weekend in the title race.

Newcastle vs Arsenal [Feb 5th]

Arsenal then travel to St James’ Park looking to turn around a 2-0 deficit in the League Cup semi final second leg. There is no way we deserved to lose the first leg as we had more than enough chances to put 4-5 goals past Newcastle at home. Poor finishing cost us that night but we can’t afford to be so sloppy in the return leg.

Newcastle will be desperate to defend their lead as they look to book their place at Wembley so the Arsenal players will know this will be an extremely tough game. Arteta is doing well to get the most out of our small, injury-hit squad but this game comes at the end of a gruelling run that will have seen us play 10 games in just 31 days so it will be tough to see us turning things around at St James’.

Leicester vs Arsenal [Feb 15th]

With Arsenal out of the FA Cup and through to the knockout stages of the Champions League, we now have a 10-day gap in the schedule so Arteta is taking the squad to Dubai for some warm-weather training before we take on Leicester on the 15th. I’m sure Arsenal fans will remember the run we went on after the Dubai trip last year, so hopefully it has the same affect this time around.

Leicester are in a relegation battle so obviously this is a game Arsenal are expected to win if we want to keep our title hopes alive. Any away game in the Premier League is never easy so we shouldn’t underestimate the Foxes, but I’m confident Arsenal will get the job done in this fixture to put another three points on the table.

Arsenal vs West Ham [Feb 22th]

We are back at the Emirates Stadium on February 22nd to take on West Ham in another London Derby. Our record this season against our local rivals has been outstanding, so hopefully that trend continues when we meet the Hammers this month. Graham Potter has steadied the ship at Upton Park since taking over and this should be a much tougher game than it would have been had we played it a few weeks ago.

West Ham are always capable of producing top performances against the big teams and they’ve stunned us a few times in the past, so we need to be focussed to get the three points. However, Arsenal should have more than enough quality to beat West Ham at home to keep our title hopes alive for another week.

Nottingham Forest vs Arsenal [Feb 26th]

Our last fixture in February will be a tough one as we travel to the City Ground to take on high flying Nottingham Forest. Forest have been one of the surprise packages of the season and they are currently sitting in the top four and in contention for a Champions League qualification spot. If they are still in the mix by the time we play on the 26th, fans with Nottingham Forest vs Arsenal tickets should expect an extremely tough game.

Liverpool could only manage a barely-deserved draw when they played away to Forest and they lost at home, so that should be a warning to the Arsenal players. We’ll need to be on top form if we want to win this fixture.

So we only have five games in February – a far cry from January’s packed schedule – but there are some tough matches ahead so Arsenal will need to be firing on all cylinders to keep our title charge alive.
