Arsenal predicted line-up vs Newcastle United

By on February 5, 2025

William Saliba and Myles Lewis-Skelly

Arsenal will travel to St James’ Park to take on Newcastle United in the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final tonight.

The Gunners will be coming into this game off the back of a 5-1 victory over reigning Premier League champions Manchester City. So, they will be full of confidence ahead of this fixture and they desperately need that as they will have to overcome a 2-0 deficit in this game to reach the final.

On the other hand, Newcastle were in tremendous form over the last few weeks but have lost two of the last three Premier League games and both defeats have come at home. So, this is an encouraging sign for the visitors but they have lost the last two games at St James’ Park.

Team news

Gabriel Jesus’ season is over after sustaining a serious knee issue, while Bukayo Saka isn’t in contention to feature due to his hamstring problem. Moreover, Ben White remains sidelined along with Takehiro Tomiyasu.

Predicted line-up

Mikel Arteta is set to go with a strong team to turn the tie around and David Raya would be between the sticks ahead of Neto. William Saliba should be in the centre-back position alongside Gabriel Magalhaes, therefore, Jakub Kiwior could be among the substitutes for the visitors.

Jurrien Timber may keep hold of his place in the right-back position, while Myles Lewis-Skelly would be on the opposite side after putting his name on the scoresheet against Man City.

Thomas Partey would continue in the deep-lying playmaker position with Declan Rice likely to be in the box-to-box role. So, Jorginho and Mikel Merino will have to make do with a place on the bench.

Martin Odegaard is expected to be the creative midfielder and Ethan Nwaneri could be on the right after scoring a goal last time out. Gabriel Martinelli might be in his preferred left-wing role, therefore, Leandro Trossard and Raheem Sterling could feature off the bench.

Kai Havertz is set to be deployed in the centre-forward position as Arteta doesn’t have any other option available to rotate in this area.

Expected Arsenal line-up vs Newcastle
