Arsenal are reportedly planning to make a move to sign RB Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko next summer, as per transfer journalist Charles Watts.

The Slovenian has continued to be linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium in recent months. The Gunners were reportedly interested in signing him last summer to bolster the frontline but the forward eventually opted to remain at the German side to continue his development.

The 21-year-old was also tentatively linked with a move to Mikel Arteta’s side in this winter window but they never formalised their interest before the deadline.

The youngster is deemed one of the most talented strikers in the world and has showcased his goal-scoring prowess for the Bundesliga side this season, scoring 14 goals and registering three assists in all competitions. Therefore, it is not a surprise to see the North London club want to purchase him.

Reporting on Caught Offside, Watts claims that Arsenal have earmarked Newcastle United star Alexander Isak as the ‘first-choice’ option to reinforce the attack.

However, it would be incredibly difficult to lure him away from St James’ Park as the Magpies are expected to demand a mammoth fee to let him leave the club.

So, Arsenal have Sesko on their wish-list as well and he would be a more attainable option as they have a good relationship with the player, his representatives and Leipzig.

However, purchasing him won’t be straightforward as other big clubs around Europe are also keen on securing his service. The forward is valued at around £42m by Transfermarkt and has a contract until 2029 with Marco Rose’s side so they are likely to demand a big fee to sell him.

Sesko would be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal with a view to the long-term future if they purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether they eventually opt to sign him next summer to bolster the frontline.

Arteta’s side are also interested in Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins and submitted a formal proposal to secure his service in this winter window. Therefore, it remains to be seen whether the Emirates club will revive their interest in signing him next summer.
