Arsenal want to sign Adeyemi as alternative to key target

By on February 13, 2025

Arsenal are reportedly willing to sign Borussia Dortmund star Karim Adeyemi as an alternative option to a primary target, as per transfer journalist Charles Watts.

The Gunners have Leandro Trossard, Gabriel Martinelli, Bukayo Saka and Raheem Sterling as the options to deploy in the wide areas. However, Saka has been out injured in recent weeks, while Martinelli has also picked up an issue.

On the other hand, Sterling joined the club on a loan deal from Chelsea last summer but is likely to return to the Blues at the end of this season as he has been poor thus far.

Moreover, Ethan Nwaneri can also provide cover in this area if needed and has already showcased glimpses of his qualities but is still only 17. So, he needs time to develop his career.

Now, on the Daily Briefing (via Caught Offside), Watts says that Arsenal want to sign a new winger and Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams is Mikel Arteta’s primary target.

Adeyemi to Arsenal

The Gunners previously attempted to hire him and failed, now, they could try once again next summer. But, if they are eventually unsuccessful in persuading him to join then they have Adeyemi on their wishlist as an alternative option.

The German can play anywhere across the frontline so he would be a perfect option for Arteta’s side to bolster the attack. Moreover, he recently changed his agent – which is an indication that he could leave Dortmund next summer.

Napoli attempted to sign the forward in the winter window but eventually, a deal didn’t come to fruition. The 23-year-old is valued at around £29m by Transfermarkt and will enter the final two years of his existing deal with Dortmund next summer. Therefore, the German giant could be open to cashing-in on him to make the most profit out of his departure.

Adeyemi is a left-footed winger and is extremely quick. Moreover, he can dribble past opposition defenders and also works hard without possession.

Arsenal need reinforcement in the flank and Williams or Adeyemi would be a shrewd acquisition if they purchase either one. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club can eventually manage to hire Adeyemi or Williams next summer.
