Key Positions Arsenal Need to Bolster up Come 2025/26 Season
The 2024/25 season has already passed its halfway point, and the cracks in the team have become obvious to all. Despite being able to perform at the best level, it is obvious that the current squad needs a little upgrade. Both the bench and the starting eleven need a little bit of big money spending.
Over the years, the board has been known to bring out the big bucks when it comes to signing players. It was very easy to see with the signings of Declan Rice and Davide Raya. Till today, these two players make up the backbone of the club’s starting eleven.
Arsenal is still very much active in the top competitions so there is still much to hope for this season. However, with the winter transfer window already closed, and the club making no signings, much is to be expected when the window reopens in August.
Arsenal needs better quality options in certain positions and also proper backups. If you ask most Arsenal Fans where they feel the need to bolster up they know the exact position.
The Hunger for a Top 9
Arsenal’s main issue for the past couple of seasons has been the absence of a figurehead top 9. However, the club has been able to make huge progress with Kai Havertz leading the line. The German has been able to fill the striker role, despite that fans are still clamoring for a traditional top 9.
Gabriel Jesus, who was meant to lead the charge as the club’s striker, has fallen off the mark. Different bouts of injuries have seen the player struggle a lot. Arsenal are not short of options for the top 9 role. There are numerous big names making their names all across Europe, all that is left is for the club to spend the big bucks.
For the top 9 position, their focus is on the likes of Viktor Gyokeres, and Retegui from Atalanta. At one point, their interest was in Benjamin Sesko. The player that has received recent attention in the past couple of months is Ollie Watkins of Aston Villa. After a recent bid was rejected by the club, it is expected Arsenal will come with a much stronger offer. If you feel you have an idea of who Arteta would go for you can hop on any sports betting platform and place your bets.
New Shotstopper Dilemma
David Raya has been the number 1 for the club ever since his big-money signing from Brentford. He is still expected to man the post for a long time, but the dilemma with Arsenal’s goalkeeper situation is a replacement. The club does not have a solid replacement for Raya whenever he is unavailable. Raya has been the one wearing the goalkeeper gloves for the majority of the games this season. The club has to be proactive and start looking for a backup. A good goalkeeper who will play second fiddle to Raya. The Spaniard also needs a little competition to bring out the best in him.
Left Winger
Gabriel Martinelli is the one currently holding the left-wing spot for Arsenal, but fans want more options. During the transfer window, the club has to improve on its attacking options. A new winger will suffice either on the left or on the right.
A right winger will also go well with the fans as it will help decrease the load on Bukayo Saka. The Arsenal star boy has given his all for the club playing back-to-back games. Furthermore, with the rate at which the games were coming, and with minimal rest, many fans knew Saka would succumb to injuries, which he eventually did.
A New Centre Back
Gabriel and Saliba are probably the best center-back pairing right now in the English Premier League. They have gone toe to toe with the heavy hitters in the league and stood their ground. The pairing of the Brazilian and French Man has been a great success for the club. Furthermore, with the scoring capabilities of Gabriel, it only brings more threat to other clubs.
Both players have done amazingly well when going forward during set pieces. Staying at the back and preventing the opponents from scoring is also something they do with great success. However, with the high number of games being played in a season, better players at the back are needed. A new center-back should be added to the list of new signings the club needs.
