Arsenal are reportedly closing in on a deal to sign Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi, as per Football Transfers.

The Gunners currently have enough firepower in their midfield department following Declan Rice and Mikel Merino’s arrival in the last two summer windows.

However, with Thomas Partey and Jorginho’s future remaining uncertain, Mikel Arteta’s side are seemingly lining up options in case the duo eventually leaves next summer.

Both have entered the final few months of their respective contracts and aren’t close to signing an extension yet. Partey continues to play a crucial role in Arteta’s starting eleven but it looks almost certain that Jorginho will leave at the end of this season.

Now, Football Transfers report that Arsenal are keen on purchasing Zubimendi to bolster the engine room and are ‘closing’ in on a deal to hire him. Arteta’s side are prepared to double the midfielder’s wages and have already reached an agreement over a four-year contract.

Zubimendi to Arsenal

Zubimendi’s representatives will travel to London to hold further talks with Arsenal as the player is concerned about life away from his home and has demanded some off-field assurance before agreeing to join the Gunners.

Arsenal are open to accepting his demands to persuade him to join and are ready to help the player to settle down in England. So, they are confident to get the deal done.

The 26-year-old has a £52m release clause in his current contract and has a contract until 2027 with Real Sociedad.

Zubimendi was heavily linked with a move to Liverpool last summer but the player eventually rejected a move to Anfield to stay at Reale Arena. Now, it remains to be seen whether the North London club can eventually manage to lure him to the Emirates Stadium next summer.

The Real Sociedad star is deemed one of the best midfielders in La Liga and has the necessary technical qualities to play in Arteta’s possession-based style of football.

Moreover, he has been the key player in Spain national team in recent times following Rodrigo Hernandez’s serious knee injury. Therefore, he would be a great coup for Arsenal if they eventually manage to secure his service.
