Arsenal eye move to sign Hugo Ekitike as Isak alternative

By on February 18, 2025

Arsenal are reportedly planning to sign Eintracht Frankfurt star Hugo Ekitike as an alternative option to primary target Alexander Isak, as per Caught Offside.

The Gunners have been struggling with injury problems in the attacking department as Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka have been out injured.

Moreover, Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz’s seasons are already over due to their respective injury problems. So, Mikel Arteta will have to end the season without a specialist centre forward.

The Spanish boss opted to deploy Leandro Trossard in the false nine position last weekend against Leicester City but he couldn’t showcase his best in an unfamiliar role. However, Mikel Merino scored a brace after being introduced in the second half as a striker.

So, the North Londoners will be hoping that the Spain international will be able to continue his goal-scoring run as a striker until the end of this season.

Ekitike to Arsenal

Now, Caught Offside state that Arsenal want to sign a new prolific striker next summer and Newcastle United’s Isak is their primary target. But, the Magpies might be able to keep hold of him should they manage to qualify for the Champions League next season.

RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko is also on Arsenal’s radar but the Gunners have lined up Ekitike as an alternative target. He would be a more affordable acquisition for Arsenal as Frankfurt are ready to sell him for a fee of around £60m.

However, purchasing the Frenchman won’t be straightforward for the North London club as Chelsea are also interested in luring him away from Deutsche Bank Park Stadium.

The German side have been developing strikers in recent years as after Randal Kolo Muani and Omar Marmoush, Ekitike has started attracting the attention of big clubs.

The 22-year-old initially burst onto the scene having displayed glimpses of his qualities for Stade de Reims and Paris Saint-Germain decided to sign him having been impressed by his performances.

However, he struggled to flourish in his career at the Parc des Princes. Now, he has been in excellent form with Frankfurt, scoring 17 goals and registering six assists in all competitions.

Therefore, Ekitike could be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal with a view to the long-term future if they purchase him. However, Arteta’s side would be better off going for a more experienced striker to finally win the Premier League title.
