Arsenal have received a significant boost in their pursuit of Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams, according to a report from Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo .

The Gunners have been strongly linked with a move for the Spanish attacker, with reports suggesting Mikel Arteta has identified him as his priority wing option ahead of the summer.

The 22-year-old winger was also a key target for La Liga giants Barcelona, who came close to securing his signature. The Catalan club were heavily interested in bringing the Euro 2024 winner to the Nou Camp last year.

Arsenal’s Clear Path to Signing Nico Williams

Arsenal’s chances of landing Williams have now improved significantly, as Barcelona have reportedly shifted their focus to Liverpool’s Luis Díaz.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the Gunners have received a major boost as Barcelona have made the Colombian winger their top target instead.

The Catalans, now led by Hansi Flick, had been pushing to sign Williams, but financial constraints have hindered their ability to complete the deal.

With Barcelona now prioritizing Díaz, Arsenal have a much clearer path to securing the Spanish international this summer.

With a release clause of £48 million, Nico Williams played a crucial role in Spain’s Euro 2024 triumph, earning the Man of the Match award in the final after scoring in the decisive game.

Since making his debut for Athletic Club in 2021, Williams has registered 24 goals in 152 appearances, further cementing his reputation as one of Europe’s most exciting young talents.

With Barcelona stepping aside, Arsenal are now in a strong position to push for his signature as they look to reinforce their squad ahead of the new season.

Arsenal will need to strengthen their attacking options in the summer after failing to sign any forwards during the winter window.
