Arsenal have been presented with an opportunity to sign Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong, as Premier League clubs continue to monitor his situation, according to reports from Graeme Bailey of The Boot Room.

The Dutch international has been a key figure in La Liga, but Barcelona often consider selling him when they need funds for transfers.

According to The Boot Room, intermediaries believe a move to the Premier League is the most realistic option, with Arsenal one of several clubs contacted regarding his availability.

Despite being under contract until 2026, De Jong would still command a substantial fee, making negotiations complex for any interested club.

Arsenal need midfield reinforcements

The Gunners have been actively searching for midfield reinforcements, with Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi emerging as their primary target this summer.

However, Real Madrid are also in the race for Zubimendi, meaning Arsenal may need to consider alternative options.

Barcelona maintain that De Jong remains an important player, but his role in the squad has diminished in recent months.

Pedri, Gavi, and Marc Casado have been preferred in midfield under manager Hansi Flick, reducing De Jong’s playing time this season.

The 26-year-old midfielder, who is valued at £37m (transfermarkt) has struggled for minutes, making just four league starts this campaign, leading him to assess his future.

As one of Barcelona’s highest earners, his wages could complicate potential negotiations for a move away from Spain.

Despite the financial challenge, clubs in England are closely monitoring his situation, with sources confirming strong Premier League interest.

While Arsenal remain keen on strengthening their midfield, they are not the only club tracking De Jong’s availability.

Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Manchester City have also been approached regarding a possible deal ahead of the summer window, as per the report.

If Arsenal fail to land Zubimendi, Mikel Arteta’s side could shift their focus to De Jong as a viable alternative.
