Nottingham Forest vs Arsenal: Betting preview with tips and predictions

By on February 24, 2025

Mikel Arteta Arsenal

Arsenal will look to keep alive their fading Premier League title hopes when they travel to the City Ground to take on Nottingham Forest on Wednesday night.

After league leaders Liverpool were held to a draw at Aston Villa last week, the Gunners had the perfect opportunity to close the gap to just five points with a win over West Ham on Saturday and put the pressure on Arne Slot’s men ahead of their trip to Man City the following day.

However, what appeared to be a routine win on paper turned out to be a nightmare for Arsenal. With no recognised striker fit, Mikel Merino was used as a make-shift target-man and it left the Gunners toothless with Mikel Arteta’s men struggling to create clear cut opportunities. West Ham took a shock lead just before half-time when Jarrod Bowen headed home and Myles Lewis-Skelly was then sent off midway through the second half to compound Arsenal’s woes. There was no way back for the 10-men of Arsenal, so West Ham took home all three points.

The 1-0 defeat at the Emirates Stadium was a huge blow to Arsenal’s title hopes, and it was dealt another hammer blow after Liverpool beat Man City the following day to move 11 points cleat at the top of the table. The Gunners do hold a game in hand, but they will need to be faultless in their remaining 12 games and hope Liverpool lose at least 4 times to stand a chance of winning the title.

With their title hopes hanging in the balance, Arsenal know nothing other than a win at Forest will do. However, that’s not going to be easy as Forest have been the surprise package this season. Despite losing 4-3 in a thriller at Newcastle United on Sunday, Nottingham Forest still sit third in the table – six points behind Arsenal – and are battling it out for a top four finish so they’ll be desperate for a positive result on Wednesday night.

Betting odds

Arsenal are the even money 1/1 favourites to win the game. Nottingham Forest are 13/5 to claim victory on home soil while the draw is available at odds of 9/5.

  • Forest win 13/5
  • Draw 9/5
  • Arsenal win 1/1

Arsenal are struggling to score goals due to their injury crisis in attack so we shouldn’t expect a goal fest here. Under 2.5 match goals at odds of 4/6 look like a solid bet.

Team news

Arsenal continue to have serious injury issues in attack. Bukayo Saka is still recovering from hamstring surgery while Kai Havertz is out for the rest of the season after also tearing his hamstring earlier this month.

Gabriel Jesus is facing a long road to recovery from an ACL injury while Gabriel Martinelli is still unavailable due to a muscle problem. Ethan Nwaneri limped off with cramp against West Ham on Saturday so he’s a doubt to start this game. Raheem Sterling could come in to start on the right wing.

Takehiro Tomiyasu is out for the rest of the season following knee surgery and Myles Lewis-Skelly will serve a one-game suspension following his sending off at the weekend.

As for Forest, they have virtually a fully fit squad to choose from with only Carlos Pereira a doubt due to a thigh issue.

Predicted score

It’s difficult to see Arsenal clawing their way back into title contention but they have to just win their games and pray Liverpool collapse. This is going to be an extremely tough game for Arteta’s men and the Spanish coach will need to pick his players up from a devastating set of results over the weekend.

A Forest win on Wednesday would see them move to within just three points of Arsenal so the Gunners also need to worry about those clubs chasing them down for second spot.

The North Londoners just don’t have enough goals in the team right now with so many attackers out, and Forest will provide tough opposition so I can’t predict an away win at this point. A 1-1 draw seems like a solid bet, which can be backed at odds of 5/1.
