Arsenal & Liverpool eye summer move for Ademola Lookman
Arsenal are exploring the possibility of signing Nigerian international Ademola Lookman from Atalanta in the summer transfer window, according to a report by Sacha Tavolieri via Sky Sports Switzerland .
The Premier League giants have reportedly made contact following the winger’s recent fallout with Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini.
The 2024 CAF player of the year has been a standout performer in Serie A since making the switch from RB Leipzig to Atalanta in August 2022.
Prior to his move to Italy, the 27-year-old struggled for consistency, experiencing mixed spells at Everton, RB Leipzig, Fulham, and Leicester City.
However, he has found stability and success in Bergamo, establishing himself as one of the league’s most dangerous attackers.
The Nigerian forward played a key role in Atalanta’s historic UEFA Europa League triumph in the 2023/24 campaign, delivering a sensational hat-trick in the final—the first player to achieve such a feat in the competition since 1975.
His form has remained impressive this season, registering 17 goals and seven assists in 29 appearances across all competitions.
Despite his contributions, Lookman’s future at Atalanta has come under scrutiny following a reported clash with Gasperini after their disappointing exit from the Champions League at the hands of Club Brugge.
With tensions rising, a return to the Premier League could be on the horizon for the winger – who is worth £46m according to (transfermarkt)
Arsenal and Liverpool interested in Ademola Lookman
According to the report, Arsenal have already made an inquiry about Lookman’s availability, however, they face competition as the players representatives have reached out to Liverpool regarding a potential move.
The Gunners are in the market for attacking reinforcements after failing to secure a forward in January.
Mikel Arteta’s side have been overly reliant on Bukayo Saka, and bringing in a versatile attacker like Lookman could ease that burden.
Meanwhile, Liverpool are also keeping a close eye on the situation, particularly with uncertainty surrounding Mohamed Salah’s long-term future.
The Reds are reportedly ahead of Arsenal in the race to sign the Atalanta star, with discussions at a more advanced stage.
As the summer window approaches, it remains to be seen whether Lookman will return to the Premier League. With both Arsenal and Liverpool interested, his next destination could be one of England’s top clubs.
