Arsenal planning to make a move to sign Samu Aghehowa
Arsenal are reportedly planning to make a move to sign FC Porto star Samu Aghehowa, as per Caught Offside.
After joining Atletico Madrid from Granada ahead of last season, the forward went straight out on loan to Deportivo Alavés without playing a single game for Los Rojiblancos.
The 20-year-old enjoyed a promising campaign for the Basque club last season and was even a part of the Spain squad that won the Gold Medal in the Olympics last summer.
Following that, he attracted the attention of Chelsea and the Blues were even very close to securing his service. But, a deal eventually fell through and the player decided to move to Estadio do Dragao.
Aghehowa has been enjoying a stellar campaign for Porto this season, scoring 19 goals and registering three assists in 28 appearances in Liga Portugal and the Europa League.
Aghehowa to Arsenal
Now, Caught Offside claim that having been impressed by the Spaniard’s displays this season, Arsenal have expressed their interest in signing him to bolster the frontline.
The forward still has four and a half years left in his current contract, therefore, Porto are in no rush to cash-in on him. But, if they are forced to sell then they want a fee of around £42m.
However, purchasing him won’t be easy for the Gunners as Aston Villa and West Ham United are also interested in him. Moreover, Chelsea haven’t given up on their hopes of hiring him despite failing to do that last summer.
Aghehowa, standing at 6ft 4in tall, is quick, strong, good in the air and is also efficient in finishing off his opportunities. The 20-year-old is a highly talented player and possesses the potential to reach the top. Therefore, he would be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal with a view to the long-term future if they purchase him.
However, the player is still very young and hasn’t proven his worth at the highest level consistently enough to prove that he would be able to help Arsenal achieve their lofty ambitions straightaway if he were to join this summer. So, Arsenal would be better off exploring more experienced strikers to reinforce the frontline.
