Arsenal’s title challenge has faltered, and the absence of Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli has only compounded their struggles.

Mikel Arteta has provided a cautious update on their recovery, as the Gunners eagerly await the return of their attacking duo.

The loss of both players has been a major setback for Arsenal, contributing to their recent dip in form.

Their struggles were evident in the uninspiring goalless draw against Nottingham Forest, a result that did little to convince anyone they remain serious contenders in the Premier League title race.

With their attack looking increasingly toothless, the squad is feeling the strain.

Arteta’s Update on Saka and Martinelli

Speaking after the Forest game, Arteta was asked whether Saka and Martinelli could return “soon.” His response was blunt.

“I don’t think so,” he said.

Pressed further on whether they might Be fit in time for Arsenal’s trip to Fulham after the international break, the manager was slightly more optimistic.

“I think so but again let’s see how they evolve in the next few weeks to make the right steps and then after that, they’ve been out for a long, long time, so we’re going to have to integrate them as well gradually. They are evolving well but they’re still a bit far.”

Key Meeting to Determine Their Return

Arteta also revealed that discussions regarding their progress are ongoing, with a crucial meeting scheduled for Thursday that could determine their pathway back into the squad.

“We have a meeting tomorrow to discuss where they are, especially Gabi, who probably has a chance before Bukayo to come in. But how soon that is, we’ll have to see how it evolves in the next week or 10 days.”

Focus Shifts to the Champions League

As Liverpool continue their relentless march towards the Premier League title, Arsenal’s draw at the City Ground only reinforced the reality that their hopes of lifting the trophy are all but over this season as they are now 13 points adrift.

With their domestic aspirations fading, the Gunners must now shift their focus to the Champions League.

Their attention turns to the Netherlands, where they will face PSV in the Round of 16—a crucial test as they aim to make a deep run in Europe’s elite competition.
