Arsenal Hold Talks with Kimmich Over Free Transfer Move
Arsenal have reportedly held discussions with Joshua Kimmich over a potential free transfer from Bayern Munich as they prepare for a busy summer window.
The German international could be part of an overhaul of Mikel Arteta’s squad following an underwhelming Premier League title challenge this season.
Kimmich’s contract with Bayern Munich expires at the end of June and recent reports suggested that the Bavarian club have withdrawn their latest offer.
Despite reports earlier this month suggesting he would commit his future to the Bundesliga giants, an agreement has yet to be reached.
Arsenal Eye Kimmich as Jorginho’s Replacement
Arsenal reportedly see Kimmich as a potential replacement for Jorginho, whose contract also expires this summer.
The Italian midfielder, along with Thomas Partey, is expected to leave the club at the end of the season.
According to Florian Plettenberg of Skysports Germany, the Gunners have shown “concrete interest” in Kimmich and have already held formal talks with the 30-year-old’s representatives.
The versatile midfielder has made Bayern aware he has two offers from abroad, one of which is from a Premier League club.
Kimmich’s departure from Bayern is not yet certain, as discussions between his camp and the club’s hierarchy remain ongoing.
Arsenal are keen to secure his services on a free transfer but will face stiff competition from other clubs. There is also a possibility that he extends his stay in Munich if a breakthrough if found.
A Perfect Fit for Arsenal?
The opportunity to play outside Germany for the first time in his career could appeal to Kimmich, and his wealth of experience would make him a valuable addition to Arsenal’s squad.
Having won every major domestic trophy multiple times—including a Champions League title—his winning mentality and leadership could be crucial for the Gunners.
Kimmich’s versatility is another major asset. He can operate in midfield but is also capable of playing at right-back and center-back, making him a useful option for Arteta’s tactical system.
Arsenal’s use of inverted full-backs under Arteta could also suit the German’s style of play. Kimmich is valued at £41m by Transfermarkt so he’d be a bargain if Arsenal could sign him on a free transfer.
This season, Kimmich has registered 10 assists and one goal in 36 appearances. Over his Bayern career, he has contributed 114 assists and scored 43 goals in 426 matches for the Bundesliga leaders.
Arsenal’s interest in Kimmich comes as they prepare for an active summer transfer window, with a new striker remaining their top priority.
