Arsenal in battle with Chelsea & Liverpool to sign Adeyemi
Arsenal are reportedly in a battle with Chelsea and Liverpool over a deal to sign Borussia Dortmund star Karim Adeyemi, as per Caught Offside.
The Gunners were desperate to finally win the Premier League title this season having narrowly missed out on achieving that feat in the last two seasons.
However, following disappointing results against West Ham United and Nottingham Forest in the last two games and Liverpool’s win over Manchester City and Newcastle United, the North London club’s chance of winning the title this season is almost over. They have found themselves 13 points behind league leader, Liverpool.
The injury absence of Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz in a crucial stage of this season has turned out to be too much for Mikel Arteta’s side.
Now, Caught Offside claim that Arsenal want to strengthen the wide areas by signing a new winger next summer and Adeyemi is a player they admire a lot.
Adeyemi to Arsenal
The player was close to leaving Signal Iduna Park last summer and Napoli were most interested in hiring him but a deal eventually didn’t come to fruition. However, he is likely to move away at the end of this season and Dortmund want a fee of around £37m.
But, purchasing the German won’t be straightforward for the North London club as Chelsea and Liverpool are also interested in him. Liverpool are considering him as a potential long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah – whose current contract will expire at the end of this season.
The 23-year-old is a left-footed forward and is comfortable in either flank, moreover, he can provide cover in the centre-forward position if needed.
The youngster has made 11 goal contributions in 21 games in all competitions this season. He has the tendency of sustaining a lengthy injury in every season, therefore, Arteta’s side need to be careful about that before making a potential swoop.
Nevertheless, he is a highly talented player and could be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal to add depth to the attacking department if they purchase him.
It is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually opt to make a concrete approach to lure him to the Emirates Stadium in the upcoming transfer window.
