Arsenal plot swoop to sign Como youngster Nico Paz
Arsenal are reportedly plotting a swoop to sign Como youngster Nico Paz, as per Spanish outlet Fichajes.
After gaining promotion last term, the Italian side have displayed promising performances in Serie A this season, sitting in mid-table with 28 points from 26 games. They are currently seven points above the relegation zone.
Cesc Fábregas’s side bolstered the squad in the last two transfer windows with a few talented young players to perform well in the top flight and following their eye-catching displays this season, they have now started attracting the attention of several big clubs.
Fichajes claim that Arsenal have expressed their interest in signing Paz and could make a concrete approach in the upcoming transfer window.
Having joined Como last summer, the Argentinian – valued at around £17m by Transfermarkt – still has three and a half years left in his current contract. Therefore, they could demand a sizable amount of money if they are forced to cash-in this summer.
Paz to Arsenal
Apart from Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea and Manchester City are also in this race. Moreover, Real Madrid have an option to buy back the South American. Therefore, Mikel Arteta’s side will have to overcome stiff competition to get the deal done.
Paz is a left-footed technically gifted attacking midfielder and is also efficient in the No.8 role. He can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas, can play threading passes between the lines and also has an eye for scoring goals from distance.
The 20-year-old has scored six goals and registered four assists in 20 starts in the Serie A this term. He has even guided his team to victory against big Italian sides like Napoli, Fiorentina and Roma.
He is a highly talented player and possesses the potential to become a world-class midfielder in future. Following Fabio Vieira’s departure last summer, Arsenal have been left with Martin Odegaard as the only attacking midfield option.
Therefore, adding depth in this position would be the right decision and Paz could be a shrewd acquisition if the Gunners purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually formalise their interest in securing his service in the upcoming transfer window.
