Arsenal predicted line-up against PSV Eindhoven
Arsenal are set to take on PSV Eindhoven at Philips Stadion in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 tonight.
The Gunners have reached this stage of this competition by finishing in the top eight in the league phase, while the Dutch side had to beat Juventus in the playoff round to qualify for the last-16.
Mikel Arteta’s side have been inconsistent in the Premier League and are currently second with 54 points from 27 games, sitting 13 points behind the league leaders Liverpool.
They have already been knocked out of the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup, therefore, the Champions League is the only pathway to end the season with silverware.
Team news
The North London club have a host of players out injured at the moment with Takehiro Tomiyasu, Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz’s season already over. Moreover, Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka are also set to remain sidelined with their respective problems tonight.
Myles Lewis-Skelly was suspended against Nottingham Forest in the Premier League last week but is available for selection in this European fixture.
Predicted line-up
Arsenal had the weekend break as they were knocked out of the FA Cup. Therefore, they should be fresh for this game.
David Raya is set to continue in goal, while Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba are likely to be the centre-back partnership for the North London club.
Jurrien Timber would be in the right back position and Lewis-Skelly could be on the opposite side. Therefore, Riccardo Calafiori and Ben White might be among the substitutes.
Thomas Partey is expected to be in the defensive midfield role with Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard likely to complete the midfield trio for the visitors. Therefore, Jorginho would have to make do with a place on the bench.
Amid Jesus and Havertz’s absence, Mikel Merino might be in the centre forward position. Arteta doesn’t have many options available at his disposal to rotate in the forward department so Ethan Nwaneri should be in the right flank, while Leandro Trossard would be on the left. Meaning, Raheem Sterling may feature off the bench.
Expected Arsenal line-up vs PSV:
Raya; Timber, Saliba, Gabriel, Lewis-Skelly; Partey, Rice, Odegaard; Trossard, Merino, Nwaneri
