Arsenal learn price tag to sign Hugo Ekitike
German football expert Florian Plettenberg has said that Arsenal will have to spend big to sign Eintracht Frankfurt star Hugo Ekitike.
The Gunners currently have Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus as the two centre-forward options but both have sustained serious injuries so their season is already over.
Mikel Arteta’s side are said to be planning to upgrade the striker position next summer to finally win the Premier League title. They have been linked with a host of options in recent months with Alexander Isak being the primary targets.
However, it has recently been reported that Arsenal have earmarked Ekitike as an alternative option if they fail to purchase the Newcastle United star.
Now, writing on X, Plettenberg says that the Frenchman is set to leave Frankfurt next summer with the German side demanding around £67m for their star man – who has a contract until 2029.
He said:
“Eintracht Frankfurt are preparing for the departure of Hugo Ekitike this summer, with the 22-y/o striker likely to leave. Markus Krösche is demanding at least €80m as a transfer fee. Ekitike is under contract until 2029.”
Ekitike to Arsenal
Frankfurt have been developing strikers and selling them for big money in recent years with Randal Kolo Muani and Omar Marmoush among them.
Now, Ekitike has also started attracting the attention of big clubs around Europe having displayed impressive performances this campaign. In 34 appearances in all competitions, he has scored 18 goals and registered six assists.
Following Marmoush’s move to Manchester City in the winter window, Ekitike has now been the talismanic figure for the Eagles. However, he is still just 22 and isn’t the finished product yet.
He still has plenty of room to grow and may take time to settle down in the Premier League if he moves to the Emirates Stadium this summer.
However, Arsenal need an experienced striker – who would be able to hit the ground running straight away. Therefore, Ekitike might not be the ideal option for Arteta’s side to bolster the frontline.
It is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to lure the former Paris Saint-Germain to the Emirates Stadium this summer.
