Arsenal are reportedly ‘leading the chase’ to sign RB Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko, as per transfer journalist Graeme Bailey.

After narrowly missing out on winning the Premier League title in the last two seasons, it was widely reported ahead of this campaign that the Gunners were keen on signing a new striker.

A host of options were even linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium but Mikel Arteta’s side eventually opted not to hire a new No.9 to strengthen the attacking department.

Now, it looks like Arsenal are set to miss out on winning the league title this season as well and it has once again been reported that Arteta’s side want to sign a new centre-forward.

Alexander Isak, Viktor Gyokeres and Mateo Retegui have all been suggested as serious targets. Now, on TBR Football, Bailey says that Arsenal are also keen on signing Sesko following his eye-catching displays in the German Bundesliga in recent times.

Sesko to Arsenal

The 21-year-old has a gentleman’s agreement with Leipzig to leave this summer and has a release clause worth around £58m. Arsenal won’t have to pay the fee in one go to seal the deal as Marco Rose’s side are ready to accept the money in instalments.

However, the Gunners aren’t the only club interested in the Slovenian as Liverpool, Chelsea, Newcastle United, Manchester United and Aston Villa are also in this race, while the Reds have already made contact to learn about the details of signing him.

Sesko is keen on playing in the Premier League and his preference is to move to London so Arsenal are ‘leading the chase’ along with Chelsea to purchase him.

Sesko, standing at 6ft 5in tall, has made 22 goal contributions in all competitions thus far this season and has helped his side reach the semi-final of the DFB Pokal.

The 21-year-old is a highly talented player and possesses the potential to become a world-class striker in future. Therefore, he would be an excellent acquisition for Arsenal.

However, the Leipzig star may take time to settle down in the Premier League and might not be able to help Arsenal achieve their lofty ambitions straightaway if he moves to the Emirates Stadium this summer. So, Arsenal would be better off signing an experienced striker even if they opt to purchase Sesko.
