Arsenal eye move to sign Inter star Marcus Thuram
Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Inter Milan forward Marcus Thuram, as per transfer journalist Graeme Bailey.
The 27-year-old has been enjoying a successful time with the Nerazzurri after joining as a free agent ahead of last season. He won the Scudetto title in his debut campaign at the club and also lifted the Supercoppa Italiana trophy.
This season, he has been guiding his side to defend the title and has also helped them reach the last-16 of the Champions League. Additionally, Simone Inzaghi’s side have secured their place in the semi-final of the Coppa Italia so they have an opportunity to win the treble this term.
In 35 appearances in the Serie A and the Champions League, he has scored 15 goals and registered four assists thus far this season.
Now, reporting on TBR Football, Bailey says that Arsenal have been keeping a close eye on Thuram’s performances in recent months and even sent scouts to watch him in action against Feyenoord last week – where he helped his side win the game by putting his name on the scoresheet.
Thuram to Arsenal
The forward has a £70m release clause in his current contract with his existing deal set to run until 2028. But, The Nerazzurri are prepared to hold discussions with him regarding an extension of his contract, as well as a potential increase or even removal of the release clause.
The journalist says that the North London club aren’t alone in this race as Liverpool and Chelsea have also sent scouts to monitor his performances closely before making a potential swoop.
Arsenal have been following him for a long time and even attempted to hire him back in 2019 under Unai Emery during his time with Guingamp. But a deal eventually didn’t come to fruition and it remains to be seen whether they finally secure his service in the upcoming transfer window.
Thuram has been playing as a striker in Inzaghi’s 3-5-2 formation alongside Lautaro Martínez. But, he can also be deployed out wide and as a lone centre forward.
Arsenal are reportedly planning to reinforce the attacking department by signing a new striker and it is going to be interesting to see who they eventually hire ahead of next campaign.
