Arsenal’s new incoming sporting director Andrea Berta is reportedly planning to hire Newcastle United star Bruno Guimaraes at the Emirates Stadium, as per transfer journalist Ben Jacobs.

The Gunners started the rebuilding process under Mikel Arteta with Edu Gasper as the sporting director. The Brazilian helped the North London club become a Premier League title contender before leaving recently.

It has been reported that Arsenal are set to appoint Berta as the new sporting director to succeed the Brazilian. The Italian has had a successful time with Atletico Madrid over the last few years.

Now, on GiveMeSport, Jacobs says that Arsenal want a new midfielder this summer and Edu’s ideal target was Martin Zubimendi of Real Sociedad.

However, Berta is willing to lure Guimaraes away from St James’ Park. The player has a £100m release clause in his current contract but he has an agreement with the Magpies to leave this summer to take the next step in his career.

Guimaraes to Arsenal

They are prepared to let him leave for lower than the release clause and he might even be available for a fee of at least £60m if Newcastle fail to qualify for the Champions League.

The journalist further claims that Newcastle won’t allow both Alexander Isak and Guimaraes’s departure this summer so this could complicate the move as Arsenal are keen on signing Isak to bolster the frontline.

Jacobs said:

“Andrea Berta is going to put forward Bruno Guimaraes, who has been on Arsenal’s radar before, and again, Newcastle are not going to be selling Alexander Isak and Guimaraes. So, there are a couple of aspects here that make it complicated.

“This summer, Bruno Guimaraes could be available for £60 to £70 million to a Champions League club if Newcastle themselves also don’t get Champions League football, and that is a verbal pact. So Zubimendi is very much the Edu (Arsenal ex-director) and Jason Ayto (interim director) target, but Berta is going to be looking at Bruno Guimaraes.”

Arsenal will have to revamp the midfield department this summer if Thomas Partey and Jorginho eventually leave the club. The duo have entered the final few months of their respective contracts.

Guimaraes is a Premier League proven player so he shouldn’t take much time to settle down in his new surroundings if he eventually moves to the Emirates Stadium in the upcoming transfer window.
