Arsenal predicted line-up against Chelsea
Arsenal are set to face off against city rival Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
Mikel Arteta’s side only managed to come away with a draw versus the Blues when they travelled to Stamford Bridge earlier this season.
The Gunners will be coming into this game after overcoming PSV Eindhoven’s challenge in the Champions League last-16 in midweek. Now, they’ll take on record European Champions Real Madrid in the quarterfinal next month.
Team news
Gabriel Jesus, Kai Havertz and Takehiro Tomiyasu’s season is over due to their injury problems so the trio aren’t in contention to feature this weekend. Bukayo Saka is edging closer to full fitness after recovering from his issue but this game will come too early for him to feature.
Raheem Sterling played his best game for Arsenal against PSV last time out since joining from Chelsea on a loan deal last summer. Unfortunately, he isn’t eligible to feature against his parent club this weekend.
Predicted line-up
Arteta rotated his squad against the Dutch giants in midweek but is expected to recall all of his star players for this crucial fixture.
David Raya is set to keep hold of his place between the sticks, while William Saliba should return to the starting line-up following a well-earned rest. The Frenchman is expected to be paired up with Gabriel Magalhaes in the centre-back position for Arsenal.
Ben White started his first game in midweek after returning from his injury but Jurrien Timber should regain his spot in the right back position versus Chelsea. Myles Lewis-Skelly would be on the opposite side so Riccardo Calafiori may feature off the bench.
Thomas Partey is set to replace Jorginho in the deep-lying playmaker position, while Martin Odegaard would be recalled to start in the attacking midfield position. Declan Rice should keep hold of his place in the box-to-box role. In that case, Oleksandr Zinchenko would have to settle for a place on the bench.
Kieran Tierney will make way for Leandro Trossard in the left flank, while Ethan Nwaneri might be on the right. Mikel Merino is likely to continue in the centre-forward position amid Jesus and Havertz’s absence. So, Gabriel Martinelli could feature off the bench.
Expected Arsenal line-up vs Chelsea
Raya; Timber, Saliba, Gabriel, Lewis-Skelly; Rice, Odegaard, Partey, Trossard, Merino, Nwaneri
