Arsenal have reportedly made Alexander Isak their top summer transfer target. However, they are not the only ones eyeing the Newcastle United striker.
Liverpool are also in the race, but the Reds view him as just one of several attacking options.
Arsenal’s Priority Target
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Arsenal are set to make a big push for Isak, with the Swedish international seen as their “absolute top target” ahead of other options like Benjamin Sesko.
The Gunners are keen to add firepower to their attack and believe Isak’s pace and finishing ability could make him the perfect fit.
Despite Arsenal’s strong interest, they face competition from Liverpool. Jurgen Klopp’s side have also shown interest in Isak, but unlike Arsenal, they are not making him a priority signing. Instead, they are considering multiple options to bolster their forward line.
Newcastle’s Stance on Isak
Newcastle United, on the other hand, are determined to keep hold of their star striker. The club’s public and private stance is that they have no intention of selling Isak this summer, regardless of interest from top Premier League rivals.
Even if Newcastle fail to secure Champions League qualification, they are confident they can convince Isak to stay.
Isak has been a standout performer for Newcastle this season, playing a pivotal role in their Carabao Cup victory over Liverpool.
The Swedish forward scored the decisive second goal in the 2-1 win, further boosting his reputation and taking his tally to 23 goals in all competitions this season.
Currently, Newcastle sit sixth in the Premier League table, but they have a game in hand and are just three points away from fourth place.
Qualifying for the Champions League could play a key role in keeping Isak at the club.
With Arsenal pushing hard and Liverpool lurking, Newcastle face a challenge in retaining Isak.
The striker’s ambition to play at the highest level might sway his decision, especially if the Magpies miss out on Europe’s top-tier competition.
As the summer window approaches, Isak’s future remains uncertain. Arsenal’s determination to secure his signature and Liverpool’s lingering interest only add to the growing speculation.
Whether Newcastle can resist the big-money offers that are sure to come remains to be seen.
