Arsenal are reportedly leading the race to sign Inter Milan forward Marcus Thuram, as per Football Insider.

After running his contract down with Borussia Monchengladbach, the Frenchman decided to join the Nerazzurri as a free agent ahead of last season.

The 27-year-old enjoyed a stellar debut campaign at Giuseppe Meazza Stadium last term, guiding his team to win the Scudetto by making 20 goal contributions.

He has continued to display impressive performances for Inter this season as well, scoring 16 goals and registering four assists in the Serie A and the Champions League.

The forward has been guiding Simone Inzaghi’s side to mount a title charge once again this season, sitting at the top of the table with a three-point lead from second-placed Napoli. Moreover, he has helped Inter reach the quarterfinal of the Champions League.

Now, Football Insider state that Thuram’s recent performances in the Italian top flight have attracted the attention of several big Premier League clubs with Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal among those to have registered their interest.

But, the Gunners and the Blues are currently in front of the Merseyside club in this race. Thuram has a £71m release clause in his current contract with his existing deal set to run until 2028. But Inter don’t want to lose him and are hoping to tie him down to a fresh term.

Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus are the two strikers Arsenal currently have but both have been sidelined with their respective injury problems. Amid the duo’s absence, Mikel Merino has been providing cover in the centre-forward position.

It has widely been suggested that the North London club need a new prolific striker to finally win the Premier League title. They came close to winning the league in the last two seasons but failed and are looking set to come short in the title race once again this term.

Thuram, standing at 6ft 3in tall, is a versatile forward as he can play in the centre forward position as well as out wide.

The France international is currently at the prime stage of his career and he might be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal if they purchase him.
