Arsenal ‘keen’ on signing Brighton forward Joao Pedro
Arsenal are reportedly ‘keen’ on signing Brighton and Hove Albion star Joao Pedro, as per journalist Graeme Bailey.
After joining the Seagulls from Watford ahead of last season, the Brazilian displayed glimpses of his qualities at AMEX Stadium last term. Now, he has been enjoying a productive campaign this term, scoring eight goals and registering six assists in 20 Premier League starts.
After his recent eye-catching performances, the 23-year-old has been called up for the Brazil team in this March international break to play against Colombia and Argentina in the World Cup 2026 qualifying fixtures.
Pedro has been guiding Brighton to mount a top-four charge, sitting only two points behind fourth-placed Chelsea in the Premier League. Additionally, he has helped them reach the quarter-final of the FA Cup.
Now, reporting on TBR Football, Bailey states that Arsenal are a long-term admirer of the South American and remain ‘keen’ on signing him this summer.
Pedro to Arsenal
The forward is valued at around £42m by Transfermarkt and has a contract until 2028 at AMEX Stadium. He doesn’t have any release clause in his current deal so Brighton are in no rush to sell him just yet.
Therefore, Arsenal will have to offer a lucrative proposal to persuade the South Coast side to cash-in on their star man. However, Brighton like to play hardball to sell their biggest assets, therefore, it won’t be easy for Mikel Arteta’s side to seal the deal.
Moreover, Liverpool and Chelsea are keen on signing him having been impressed by his performances in the Premier League this campaign.
Arsenal have been exploring the market to sign a new prolific striker this summer. Alexander Isak, Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres have all been suggested as key targets.
Pedro is a versatile forward as he can play multiple positions across the attack but isn’t a specialist No.9, rather, he is more of a false nine type of striker.
Therefore, Arsenal might be better off going for a more proven striker like Isak. Nevertheless, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure Pedro’s service this summer.
