Arsenal’s Interest in Bruno Guimaraes Remains Unclear
Arsenal are looking to strengthen their squad before the 2024/25 season. The club aims to bounce back after falling short in their title challenge; they plan to be very active in the summer transfer window.
One area Mikel Arteta’s side is keen to improve is the midfield. Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi is reportedly one of their top targets.
Recent reports suggest that Arsenal are making significant progress in securing his signature.
Another name linked with Arsenal is Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes. The Brazilian international has been on the Gunners’ radar for some time, especially during Edu Gaspar’s tenure as sporting director.
However, things appear to have changed with Andrea Berta’s arrival as the new sporting director.
Romano provides clarity on Guimaraes rumours
Highly reliable transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently addressed the speculation surrounding Guimaraes.
On his YouTube channel, Romano confirmed that no concrete negotiations have occurred between Arsenal and the player.
“We have many reports on Bruno Guimaraes, including reports about Arsenal and other clubs interested in Bruno Guimaraes.
“What I am able to tell you today is that despite all of the stories involving Arsenal, I’m not aware of any concrete negotiation or concrete contact between Arsenal or Bruno Guimaraes,” Romano said.
He also explained that Guimaraes was previously a target under Edu Gaspar. Their Brazilian connection played a role in the club’s interest at the time. However, Romano stated that it is uncertain whether Berta will continue to pursue the midfielder.
“He was on the list when the director was Edu Gaspar, they’re Brazilians, so the connection is there. Now the new director is Andrea Berta, and at the moment, I’m not aware of any direct contact for Bruno Guimaraes and Arsenal,” Romano added.
Bruno Guimaraes time with Newcastle
Guimaraes joined Newcastle from Lyon in 2022 and became a key player for Eddie Howe’s side. His technical ability, vision, and defensive work rate have made him one of the Premier League’s standout midfielders.
On 16 March 2025, Guimarães became the first Newcastle United captain to lift a domestic trophy in 70 years, or any trophy in 56 years, after leading the team to victory in the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool.
This season, he has scored three goals and provided eight assists in 37 appearances. In the previous campaign, he netted seven goals and contributed ten assists in 50 matches. His overall record at Newcastle stands at 20 goals and 24 assists and the £67m-rated South American would be a superb signing for the Gunners.
Despite his impressive form, the question of whether Arsenal will make a move for the midfielder remains uncertain. We’ll have to wait and see who Berta targets when he officially begins his new role at the Emirates.
