Arsenal plot swoop to sign Feyenoord star Givairo Read

By on March 25, 2025

Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Feyenoord star Givairo Read, as per Caught Offside.

After joining the Dutch giants’ youth system in 2023, the 18-year-old made his senior debut in the following year. Now, he has established himself as a key player in Feyenoord’s first eleven this season following Lutsharel Geertruida’s departure last summer.

In 20 appearances in the Eredivisie and Dutch Cup, the Dutchman has scored a solitary goal and notched up seven assists thus far this season. Moreover, he has kept three clean sheets. The youngster is an attack-minded fullback and made three assists in one game against FC Twente just before the international break.

Now, Caught Offside state that Read has attracted the attention of several big clubs around Europe with his recent eye-catching displays with Arsenal among those to have registered their interest.

The Gunners have been keeping a close eye on his development ahead of a possible move in the upcoming transfer window. The defender has a contract until 2028 with Feyenoord and they want at least £21m to let him leave.

Read to Arsenal

The youngster’s performances haven’t just caught Arsenal’s attention as Liverpool, Barcelona, Manchester United, Atletico Madrid and Chelsea are also interested in him.

Liverpool boss Arne Slot previously worked with Read at De Kuip Stadium and he is willing to sign the 18-year-old as a replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold – who could leave the club upon the expiration of his current contract at the end of this season.

The Gunners currently have Ben White and Jurrien Timber as the two options to deploy in the right-back position. Moreover, Takehiro Tomiyasu is another option but has been struggling with injury problems.

Read is a talented player and could become a top-class fullback going forward. So, he might be an excellent acquisition for the North London club with a view to the long-term future if they purchase him.

However, Arsenal already have enough firepower in the right-back position, so they don’t need to invest again to add more depth. Instead, they would be better off saving the money to sign a top-class centre forward.

Nevertheless, whether the North London club will eventually make a concrete approach to secure his service this summer remains to be seen.
