Arsenal tipped to sign Liam Delap to upgrade the attack

By on March 28, 2025

Former striker Gabriel Agbonlahor has tipped Arsenal to sign Ipswich Town star Liam Delap this summer.

Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus are the two options Mikel Arteta has at his disposal to deploy in the centre-forward position. But, neither has managed to showcase their goal-scoring prowess consistently enough at the Emirates Stadium and the duo have now sustained season-ending injuries.

The North London club are reportedly planning to hire a new striker and have been linked with a host of names in recent weeks with Alexander Isak, Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres being among them.

Now, speaking on talkSPORT, Agbonlahor says that Delap will get a big move this summer following his impressive performances for Ipswich Town in the Premier League this season, scoring 10 goals and registering two assists in 28 appearances.

He would be an upgrade to Havertz and Jesus so the North London club should secure his service to reinforce the attacking department.

The former striker further claims that the 22-year-old would be a better option than Darwin Núñez for Liverpool, and for Tottenham Hotspur, he would be an upgrade to Richarlison.

Delap to Arsenal

Agbonlahor said:

“One player that will get a move [in the summer transfer window] is Liam Delap. Ipswich only paid £20 million for him. He’s got 10 goals in 28 Premier League appearances. He’ll get a move. Who will take a punt on him? Is he good enough for Arsenal, Liverpool or Spurs? Arsenal, Spurs and Liverpool need strikers.

“I’m sure Delap would do a better job than Kai Havertz or Gabriel Jesus [at Arsenal]. He’d do a better job than Darwin Nunez at Liverpool. He’d do a better job than Richarlison [at Spurs]. I think he’ll definitely get a move.”

Delap joined The Tractor Boys from Manchester City last summer and still has four years left in his current contract. Therefore, Kieran McKenna’s side are in a strong position to demand a big fee to sell him. They are looking highly likely to get relegated at the end of this season so it would be difficult for them to keep hold of Delap.

He is a talented player and possesses high potential, however, he hasn’t showcased his qualities at the highest level consistently enough to prove that he would be the right option for Arsenal to help them win the Premier League title.

Therefore, Arteta’s side might be better off going for a more proven striker to bolster the frontline this summer.
