Arsenal could reportedly make an ‘important’ proposal to sign Newcastle United star Alexander Isak, as per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

It is an open secret that the Gunners are planning to reinforce the centre-forward position by signing a new prolific goalscorer in the upcoming transfer window. Benjamin Sesko, Mateo Retegui and Viktor Gyokeres have all been suggested as serious targets. But, Isak is said to be the primary option.

The Swedish international has been in stellar form for the Magpies in recent times as after making 23 goal contributions in the Premier League last term, he has scored 23 goals and registered five assists in 33 appearances in all competitions this season.

The forward has even helped his side win the Carabao Cup this season. The Magpies defeated Arsenal in the semi-final over the two legs before overcoming Liverpool’s challenge in the final.

This is the Tyneside club’s first major domestic silverware in more than seven decades. Therefore, it is not a surprise to see the North London club are seeking to bolster the attack by hiring him.

Isak to Arsenal

Now, speaking on GiveMeSport, Romano says that Arsenal are likely to submit an ‘important’ proposal to sign the forward this summer but Newcastle don’t want to let him leave easily and are willing to do everything possible to persuade him to sign an extension.

So, the ball is in Isak’s court regarding how he will react when the Gunners eventually submit a formal offer to purchase him. Arsenal aren’t the only club interested in the 25-year-old as Liverpool are also keen on signing him and are also considering making an offer this summer.

Romano said:

“I don’t think this contrast story will really change his performances. He’s going to do his best for Newcastle till the end. But then we have to see what happens when Arsenal and Liverpool, because I expect these two clubs to arrive with important proposals in the summer.

“And at that stage, we have to see what the player decides to do and also what kind of conversation he will have with Newcastle. But on club side, they keep saying that they will try till the end to extend this contract, to keep the player and to make the face of their project also for the future. So I think it’s going to be a big fight in the summer for this fantastic striker.”

It has been suggested that Newcastle want at least £100m if they are forced to cash-in on Isak this summer.

The forward is a Premier League proven player and is set to enter the prime stage of his career. Therefore, there aren’t many better options than him for Arsenal to bolster the frontline to finally win the Premier League title.
