Arsenal are reportedly battling with Liverpool over a deal to sign Feyenoord star Igor Paixao, as per Caught Offside.

After moving to De Kuip Stadium from Brazilian side Coritiba back in 2022, the 24-year-old helped his side win the Eredivisie title in his debut campaign.

This season, he has been in stellar form, scoring 14 goals and registering 13 assists in 41 appearances in all competitions. He even recently scored three goals and notched up two assists in a game against FC Twente.

Now, Caught Offside claim that Arsenal have registered their interest in signing Paixao having been impressed by his recent eye-catching displays and could make a concrete approach this summer.

However, purchasing him won’t be easy as Liverpool, Napoli and Atalanta are also plotting a swoop for him. The Reds’ scouts have been impressed by the forward’s technical qualities and game intelligence, and his ability to produce in big matches.

Paixao to Arsenal

Therefore, they are planning to step up their efforts to hire the Brazilian. Arne Slot previously worked with him and could play a key role in persuading him to join. So, Arsenal will have to put their best efforts in to sign Paixao by beating the Merseyside club in this race.

The forward is valued at around £21m by Transfermarkt and still has four years left in his current contract. Therefore, Feyenoord are likely to demand a sizable amount of money to let him leave this summer.

The South American is a right-footed left winger but can also play on the opposite side if needed. He is quick, technically sound, can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas, has an eye for scoring goals from distance and can create opportunities for fellow attackers.

The Gunners are reportedly planning to hire a new left winger as Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard have had an average campaign this season.

Paixao could be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal if they purchase him. However, it’s not always easy to flourish in the Premier League after displaying impressive performances in Eredivisie and Antony of Manchester United is a prime example of that.

The difference in physicality between the two leagues is the primary reason for this. Thus, Arsenal must exercise caution before making any potential move for him this summer.
