Raya confident as Arsenal aim for UCL semi-Final spot
Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya has shown belief in his teammates ahead of their vital UEFA Champions League second leg tie.
The Gunners lead 3-0 from the first leg, a game where Raya was in goal and kept a clean sheet against Real Madrid.
Madrid are the most successful club in the competition’s history. They have won the trophy fifteen times and are known for their famous fightbacks.
Over the past week, Madrid players and fans have been very vocal about a comeback. Jude Bellingham said Remontada has been the most used word in the dressing room.
Madrid believe In another comeback
As talk continues about Madrid’s chance of turning things around, Raya was asked how he feels about the pressure and media buzz.
On the media themes of a Real Madrid comeback, Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya said:
“Well I do not usually read the press. Trying to make the best for themselves, for the game they want to play, that’s totally valid.
“We need to trust in ourselves, and that’s it period.”
When asked if he has practised for the possibility of a penalty shootout, Raya replied:
“That will be on the pitch. I will not answer that question.”
Raya urges Arsenal to stay focused
The Spanish goalkeeper stressed that Arsenal must approach the second leg with the aim of winning, not just holding the lead.
“Everything can happen in football but we have to try to win the game, not defend. We have to try to do our best and try to win the game from the beginning.
“I’m staying focused on what I have to do, both defensively and offensively. When the game arrives, we’ll see what happens.
“We have to be super-convinced that we can win the game. That is what we have to do and it is what we are going to do.”
Raya also expressed his hunger to win the trophy, saying:
“We want to win the trophy, otherwise why play?
“We just have to be focussed on winning the game tomorrow, and then we will go day-by-day.”
Arsenal are chasing their first ever UEFA Champions League title. If they progress, they will face Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals.
The French side reached the last four after beating Aston Villa.
