Arsenal ‘open talks’ to seal early deal to sign Gyokeres
Arsenal have reportedly ‘opened talks’ over a deal to sign Sporting CP superstar Viktor Gyokeres, as per Football Insider.
After beating Ipswich Town in the Premier League on Sunday, the Gunners have prolonged Liverpool’s title celebration for a few more days. They are currently 13 points behind the Reds with five games left to play.
Therefore, Mikel Arteta’s side are set to lose yet another title race. But, they have reached the Champions League semi-final by defeating Real Madrid in the quarterfinal.
Now, they will face off against Paris Saint-Germain, and this competition is their only hope to end the season with a big trophy.
It has been reported that Arsenal are willing to bolster several areas of the squad this summer to finally win the Premier League title.
Football Insider state that Arsenal are prioritising signing Gyokeres to strengthen the No.9 position as their new sporting director, Andrea Berta, is a big fan of him. They have already ‘opened talks’ behind the scenes to seal an early summer deal for him.
Gyokeres to Arsenal
Arsenal are putting together the necessary financial package to get the deal done. Gyokeres reportedly has an agreement with Sporting to leave for at least £51m, although he has a £86m release clause in his current contract.
FI claim that apart from the North London club, Man Utd are also interested in him, with his former manager, Ruben Amorim, currently at the Red Devils.
Gyokeres was heavily linked with a move away from Jose Alvalade Stadium last summer, having displayed impressive performances last term. The Gunners were said to be interested in him, but the Lions eventually managed to keep hold of him.
This season, he has been in stellar form, scoring 47 goals and registering 11 assists in 46 appearances in all competitions. He even scored a hat-trick against Moreirense in the Liga Portugal last weekend.
The forward is the most prolific goalscorer in Europe in recent campaigns and could be an excellent acquisition for Arsenal should they purchase him.
It is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually manage to secure his service this summer.
