Arsenal plot audacious swoop to sign Florian Wirtz
Arsenal are reportedly planning to make an ambitious swoop to sign Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz, as per Caught Offside.
The 21-year-old has been in stellar form at BayArena in recent years, winning the Bundesliga, DFB Pokal, and German Super Cup trophies.
Last season, he made 37 goal contributions in all competitions. He has continued to display impressive performances this term as well, scoring 15 goal contributions and registering 12 assists in 41 appearances in all competitions.
Having showcased his qualities in the German top flight in recent years, he has secured his place in Julian Nagelsmann’s Germany national team.
Now, Caught Offside state that Arsenal are overly dependent on Martin Odegaard for creativity from the midfield, so they want to hire a new No.10 and are keen on signing Wirtz.
However, Leverkusen don’t want to let him leave and are hoping to keep him by extending his current contract. But, if they are forced to cash-in, they could demand up to £112m.
Wirtz to Arsenal
The Gunners aren’t the only club interested in the youngster, as Manchester City, Liverpool, Bayern Munich, and Real Madrid are also in this race. The Bavarian club have even held talks with the player’s representatives to lure him to the Allianz Arena. Moreover, they are preparing to launch a formal proposal to get the deal done.
After failing to win the Premier League title this season as well, Arsenal are reportedly set to remain busy in the upcoming transfer window to hand Mikel Arteta the necessary tools to challenge on all fronts next campaign.
Signing a new striker and a wide forward is the priority, but it appears the Spanish boss also wants a new attacking midfielder. Moreover, if Thomas Partey and Jorginho leave for free this summer, signing defensive midfielders to replace them will become an absolute necessity.
Therefore, it is going to be interesting to see how much money Arteta will be given this summer and how many new acquisitions he eventually makes to bolster the squad.
Meanwhile, following a comfortable 4-0 victory over Ipswich Town, Arsenal will face off against Crystal Palace in the Premier League in midweek.
